What is penetration testing or pen testing?

Penetration testing or pen testing is an authorized and simulated cyberattack on a computer system to detect whether the computer system has any vulnerability and exploit the vulnerabilities in order to evaluate the security of the computer system. Penetration testing or pen testing is often performed to identify whether a system has any vulnerabilities that an attacker can exploit and then test the vulnerabilities. After completing the pen testing, the pen tester shares information with the security team so that the vulnerabilities can be patched and security can be enhanced.
