What is the Kerberos Protocol?

Kerberos is a network authentication protocol using which a node in a non-secure network can verify the identity of another node securely. As per Greek mythology, Cerberus or Kerberos is a multi-headed dog whose job is to guard the gates of the Underworld to prevent the dead from leaving. This protocol was named after this mythological character.

Understanding how the Kerberos protocol works can be challenging. In this article, we will divide the process into a couple of steps and try to understand how the protocol works.
