What is Domain Hijacking?

Domain hijacking is an attack in which attackers gain access to a domain owner’s domain account and exploit that to change the DNS nameservers or transfer the domain to a new domain registrar. Attackers often perpetrate domain hijacking for the purpose of phishing, spreading malware, blackmailing the domain owner, or for other monetary purposes.
