What is Port Security?

Port security is a security feature using which one can limit what MAC addresses are allowed to send traffic through a switch port in a switched network. Using port security, one can limit the maximum number of MAC addresses that can be learned on a port. If a packet from an allowable MAC address comes on a switch port, the packet is forwarded. Otherwise, the packet is restricted.
