What is a Virtual IP Address?

A Virtual IP Address or VIP address or VIPA is an IP address that is not tethered to any particular physical network interface. Multiple devices can share a VIP address. Each device can have a unique local IP address. But, externally, they can share a Virtual IP Address or VIP address, or VIPA.

Where is a Virtual IP Address used, and why do we need a VIP address? In this article, we would discuss that in detail.
