What is ARP?
Address Resolution Protocol or ARP is a protocol using which a device can discover the data link layer address associated with a given network layer address. ARP is used by a device to discover a MAC address associated with a given IP address. ARP messages are communicated within the boundary of a single network. These messages are never routed by a router. So, this protocol works in the data link layer of the OSI model.
