What is a MAC address?

When two devices communicate with each other, the Network Interface Controllers or NICs of the two devices must have some unique addresses. A MAC address is used for that purpose. A Media Access Control or MAC address is an address that is uniquely assigned to a Network Interface Controller or NIC. This address is commonly used in networking technologies like Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth. And, the data link layer of the OSI model uses this address.
