IPv6 Packet Format

IPv6 is the Internet Protocol version 6. The IPv6 protocol works in the network layer of the OSI model. The Protocol Data Unit (PDU) of the network layer of the OSI model is a packet. In the IPv6 protocol, the communicating nodes exchange IPv6 packets to each other.

Each IPv6 packet contains a fixed header, optional extension headers, and the payload. What is the format of an IPv6 packet? And, what all information do various fields in the packet contain? In this article, we would discuss that in detail.
