Internet Protocol version 4 or IPv4 is the fourth version of the IP protocol and it is widely used on the Internet. The IP protocol works in the network layer of the OSI model. The Protocol Data Unit (PDU) of the network layer of the OSI model is a packet. The Internet Protocol encapsulates the data received from its upper layer and adds its own header. The IPv4 packet header contains all the necessary information that is required to route the packet.
