What is a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP)?
A Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) is an unwanted program or software application that is bundled with other software that may seem useful to a user. A user may give consent to download and install the software bundle without properly reading the End-User License Agreement. As a result, the potentially unwanted programs get downloaded and installed on the user’s computer.
These potentially unwanted programs are not useful to users. Instead, these programs may install additional tools and software to a user’s computer, track activities of a user and sell the information to third-parties for illegitimate financial gains.
