The permutation boxes (P-box), on the other hand, take the outputs of the S-boxes as input, permute the bits, and then, feed the output bits to the S-boxes of the next round as shown in the above figure.
A Substitution-Permutation Network (SPN) follows the properties of confusion and diffusion. As per the property of confusion, if one bit of the key changes, that will change several bits in the output ciphertext. In other words, the confusion property hides the relationship between the key and the ciphertext.
