What is the DNS Amplification attack?
A DNS amplification attack is a Denial of Service attack, in which an attacker sends a large number of DNS requests to DNS resolvers. The attacker uses the IP address of the targeted victim as the source IP address in all the requests. As a result, the DNS resolvers send the responses to the targeted victim’s IP address. The attacker crafts the requests in such a way that the DNS resolvers send large responses. As a result, the responses consume all the bandwidth of the victim and it results in a Denial of Service (DoS) attack.
