What is the CIA Triad?

At the core of information security is the assurance that information is not compromised when any critical issue arises. There can be many critical issues such as natural disasters, server malfunctions, physical damage to computers or theft of computers, etc. Information should not be compromised if any such critical problems arise. The CIA triad is a security model that guides information security policies within a company. The three elements of the CIA triad are confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data. The CIA triad is at the heart of information security, and it was first mentioned in a NIST publication in 1977. In this article, we are going to discuss the CIA triad in detail.
