What is BluePrinting?
BluePrinting is a method using which attackers can find out details about remote Bluetooth devices and then exploit the information to hack those devices for illegitimate purposes.
How does BluePrinting work?
Attackers first find out the BD_ADDR of a nearby Bluetooth device. Then, they use some available tools to find out information on manufacturers, models, and firmware versions of the particular Bluetooth device.
BD_ADDR of a Bluetooth device is a unique address comprising 6 bytes. This address is usually hardcoded in the chipset of the device. The first three bytes of the BD_ADDR refer to the chipset manufacturer. Using these first three bytes, the attacker can extract information on the manufacturer of the Bluetooth device.
