What is Challenge-Response Spam Filtering?

A challenge-response spam filtering system is a type of spam filter that is used to prevent spam email messages. When a sender sends an email message, a challenge is sent to the sender. A legitimate user can solve the challenge easily. But, if a spammer forges the return address of a spam email or sends a large number of spam messages, it is difficult for the spammer to solve the challenge. As a result, the challenge-response spam filtering system can differentiate legitimate emails from spam emails easily.
