Attackers often send a spam message with a forged return address. In that case, if the email is sent to an email address where emails cannot be delivered and the recipient mail server sends a bounce message to the forged return address asynchronously, then it will result in a backscatter. Backscatters are bounce messages with forged return addresses. To address the problem, BATV or Bounce Address Tag Validation is used. BATV is a method using which the bounce address specified in an email message is verified.
How does BATV work and how can it prevent email spam? In this article, we would discuss that in detail.
